LI FENG, MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL JAKARTA

A newly opened restaurant in Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. This restaurant came with Cantonese cuisine in  modern twist and good presentation.


Beauty in Abundance, sentences that describe this restaurant as a whole. Li Feng offers the sophisticated flavors of fine Cantonese cuisine amidst an elegant setting inspired by voyage history and spice trade between Fukien - once known as one of the world's greatest ports - and the old Jakarta, Batavia.



Look! The wall was decorated with trading map from the history in the rustic-bronze mirror. They put every story in this restaurant. And again, they really gave attention to each details. Thumbs up!


Another part was quite interesting, exactly there was a glass artwork in the ceiling, the blue as a whole looks like waves. And it was true, this glass artwork tell the voyage history. The blue color as the waves, and the brown color as the boats.




And this restaurant was helmed by Chef Fei and Chef Loy, the menu presents a scrumptious blend of traditional dishes and creative rendition of classics. That's why I'm so curious about the foods here. So, let's take a look of some foods here! :)

Crispy Fish Skin with Salted Egg Yolk
Crispy Fish Skin with Salted Egg Yolk (IDR 68.000), a good starter and really addictive. This fish skin was fried perfectly with salted egg yolk and a little hint of spicy.

Swan Dumpling with Black Pepper Duck Meat
Swan Dumpling with Black Pepper Duck Meat (IDR 89.000/6pcs), such a pretty dish with swan-shaped dumplings and filled with black pepper duck meat. The filling was so good and perfect, savory and flavorful.

Woohooo, this one as the star of our lunch! Because it was the prettiest presentation and all the people who come here, definitely order this menu, because in addition to the good taste, it was also very good when photographed, so instagenic.

Spicy XO Scallop Dumplings (white) and Squid Ink, Seafood and Fish Roe Dumplings (black)
Spicy XO Scallop Dumplings (IDR 32.000/3pcs) and Squid Ink, Seafood and Fish Roe Dumplings (IDR 32.000/3pcs), these dumpling were really damn good, especially for the white one! Anyway, a real portion is consist of 3 dumplings. Note : The picture above just for food tasting only.

Imperial Kung Fu Soup
Imperial Kung Fu Soup (IDR 148.000), consist of stewed chicken and quail with matsutake, cordyceps flower and dried longan. This one as my favourite! Called it as a comforting soup served with tender and soft meat.

How to enjoy this menu was quite unique. The menu was  presented as you want to drink a cup of tea, with a teapot and a small cup. Here's how : Firstly, the broth is poured into the small cup, so that you can sips. Then, you can eat it with chopsticks or spoons.

 Sautéed Beef with Szechuan Pepper and Chili
Sautéed Beef with Szechuan Pepper and Chili (IDR 378.000), beef cubes were tender and juicy with spicy flavors. Looks simple but such a lovely dish.

Sweet & Sour Chicken with Pineapple and Bell Pepper
Sweet & Sour Chicken with Pineapple and Bell Pepper (IDR 98.000), consist of deep fried chicken, slices bellpepper and sweet-juicy pineapple with sweet and sour sauce. Just another simple dish but make you happy.

This menu presentation was also good, after the Swan Dumplings. For the garnish which looks alike the yarn (abobe) is made from sugar, so it makes the menu presentation becomes sweeter. They really gave attention to the details.

Wok-Fried String Beans with Dried Shrimps and Garlic
Wok-Fried String Beans with Dried Shrimps and Garlic (IDR 68.000), also be my favorite! Love the fragrant from the garlic and the string beans was savory with crunchy texture.

Braised Hele Crab with Japanese Rice in Hoisin Sauce
Braised Hele Crab with Japanese Rice in Hoisin Sauce (IDR 218.000), just a perfect main course with savory and tangy flavors, and also served with Japanese rice (the rice texture more dense and sticky).

Three Dessert Platter
Three Dessert Platter (IDR 118.000), consist of 3 kinds of hot & cold dessert, from left to right : Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Frog Jelly and Coconut Milk, Blueberry Snow Skin Dumpling and Chilled mango with Pomelo Sago Cream.

Overall, the foods here were really good and they really paid attention to the details. So, not only served a good and pretty presentation, they also maintain and concert to the taste of each menu.
