[ALL YOU CAN EAT] DIMSUM BRUNCH AT SHANG PALACE


THE ART OF CHINESE CUISINE

An advocate of the fragrance of Chinese culture, Shangri-La’s signature restaurant Shang Palace showcases traditional Cantonese cuisine and provincial specialties in an elegant and tranquil setting.


In the early 2014, the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta offers their latest promo, which is All You Can Eat Dimsum Weekend Brunch. This promotion can you get easily, just with IDR 208.000++ (already included with some options of A la Carte menu and drinks, Chinese Tea / Lemon Tea - free flow). This can be a perfect time to spend your day with family or friends here. Hooraaay....Really worth at all!


Anyway, just got a little surprise! In 2014, Shang Palace was nominated as one of Indonesia's best restaurant by Indonesia Tatler. And now, let's start for having brunch here! Keep drooling and stay there foodie! HAAAP...

Oven Baked Mini Egg Tarts


Oven Baked Mini Egg Tarts, the type of food that caught my attention. Perhaps the look and shape as egg tarts can be said in general, but the egg tarts here is quite tasty, not too sweet for me.


Sesame Balls

Sesame Balls, as usual, that you find everywhere. Perhaps here the shape looks nice and crisp.

Chilled Coffee Pudding

Chilled Coffee Pudding, another sweetness of the day! Its layers looks very neat and appetizing. It's quite refreshing me then.

Almond Bean Curd with Mixed Fruits

Almond Bean Curd with Mixed Fruits, as my favourite! I took this dessert as much as two servings. Ooops! This might be too good for me and the fruits was really fresh, so that one portion becomes not enough. Hehe.

Chilled Mango Pudding

Chilled Mango Pudding. I'm not a lover of mangoes, so this time I didn't come to taste it. However, according to my other bloggers friend, they said that it was very tasty and refreshing.

Mixed Fruits Salad, this also perfect! Fresh fruits was served in cold with mayonnaise. Me likey!

Chinese Red Bean Pancake, the last light bites that I can't taste. Because I'm feeling full enough, but the 'journey' still going on. Hhhhh...!

Crispy Fried Eel with Salt and Pepper, just good enough as little snack, or can be said as starter? Hehe.

Deep Fried Mushroom with Salt and Pepper, very very likey! Just another crunchy snacks, but surely you can't stop to grab it! Haha.

Stir Fried String Bean, Celery and Dried Shrimp with XO Sauce. It's tme to be a vegetarian for a while. Enjoy the string beans which is sauteed to savory and quite crisp.

Marinated Smoked Duck with Peanut

Marinated Smoked Duck with Peanut, such as a little heaven! The duck meat was very tender, soft and juicy. In addition, the marinade was also permeated perfectly. The disadvantage only on the portion, the portion is too small for a good meal. Hehe.


And now, let's enjoy the fresher! Ice cream and sorbet sensation! Just picking your favourite flavour and topped with any topping that you can choose as you want.

Then, we should enjoy the Chinese dishes here. So, here it goes!


In addition to Chinese Tea which is included in the package, Shang Palace also provides several choices of Signature Blooming Tea (IDR 68.000++/pot) that can be enjoyed alone or both. And on this occasion, I tasted it, such as Enchanted Beauty, Rising Star and First Kiss Tea.

Enchanted Beauty Tea
Sophisticated Oolong Tea are handcrafted into a bouquet with amaranth and orange lily. This tea composition will bloom in the teacup.

Rising Star Tea
Elegant black tea leaves are handcrafted and shaped into a bouquet of Jasmine flowers. This tea composition will bloom in the teacup.

First Kiss Tea
Beautiful white tea leaves are handcrafted into a bouquet of hibiscus and amaranth blossom. A sweet and enchanting tea creation.


Perhaps this is a bit different from other Chinese Tea. This tea has a color, aroma and distinctive properties derived from tea flowers that bloom in the water. Soaked the longer, the more blooming flower tea and tea color became more dark. It is suitable for you, tea lovers!


Dimsum called! The picture above was some dim sum I've tasted, such as Ha Gao, Steamed Pork Ribs,  Crystal Prawn Dumpling, Steamed Beef Ball with Bean Curd Skin, Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken wrapped in Lotus Leaf and Steamed Chicken Feet with Black Pepper Sauce. All was really good and well done! Have a good brunch with good foods.


Sometimes, I just curious with their porridge. So, I should try it, and it really awesome! There are two kinds of porridge (if I'm not mistaken) such as the BBQ Pork Porridge and Chicken Porridge. Both of these types of porridge served with fried into crisp cakwe, which gives the impression of crunchy when eaten with porridge.


It seems there is less, if you go to a Chinese restaurant and not order Xiao Long Bao. Now, we should ordered 3 types of Xiao Long Bao was in Shang Palace : Crab Meat, Beef XO and Pork Xiao Long Bao. Oh, my goodness! IT-A-MUST-TO-ORDER!



And at the last, we met with the Executive Chinese Chef, Benson Fok. His dedication and style has taken him to several countries around Asia, including Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia. He believes in creating authentic Chinese delicacies by combining the freshest ingredients and cooking techniques to retain the flavours, scents and textures, all to delight diners. Thanks again to Chef Benson for making beautiful dishes for us!

SUNDAY'S COOKS AFFAIR - FRENCH PASTRY GALORE

Hello! This was a good news for pastry lovers!

Yes, it was Sunday's Cooks Affair is a feast of 10 cooks with different specialties and backgrounds. From culinary arts to pastry arts, both with one passion towards their love for foods.


On this edition of COOKS AFFAIR, French Pastry is on focus. Being the Mecca of gastronomy, French technique and style of cooking provides the main guidelines for any other regional cuisine to follow. Conjoined with the location a HYDE Kemang, where the cozy and comforting ambience will be highlighted into this pop-up style event.

Anyway, Sunday's Cooks Affair will bring in selections of pastries from crafty cooks of Chef Nation, who are they?

Sticky Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce (IDR 30.000)

Sticky Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce by Putri Miranti (@putrimirantiindra), a chef that has received a special note of "extremely talented in pastry art" by The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. That's not enough! She also a Co-Founder and Chef at Tree Food Concept Private Dining, teaching cooking at Lifestyle Studio, Cooking Plus and many more in Jakarta! Anyway, this was good and the top was perfectly enough with toffee sauce.

Zebra Cake (IDR 45.000)

Zebra Cake, one of the catchy colour cake on that day, which is topped with strawberry and raspberry! Such a simply little sweetness for a day.

Salted Caramel Cronuts (IDR 35.000)

Salted Caramel Cronuts by Odie Djamil (@odiedjamil), a founder of Chef Nation and Cooks Affair. And in the beginning of 2010, he made his mark as the top Macaron Guy in Jakarta and expanded his business to more than just macaron under his own Modern Pastry and Dessert Brand. He also hosting on Cake Story (Kompas TV), Dapur Warna (Trans7) and Bittersweet (Kompas TV) which is the first molecular and modern dessert program in Indonesia television programme.  Oh ya, he also registered as dessert consultant at HYDE Kemang.

Salted Caramel Eclair covered with Dark Chocolate Glaze and topped with Peppermint Lips by Kimmy (@kimpangestu), such a cute and yummy eclairs I found so far! Kimmy has worked under various famous pastry shop and restaurant in Australia, such as Peter Doyle - The Quay, Tetsuya by Tetsuya Wakuda, etc. That's why her pastry was really good!

Lemon Meringue Eclair (IDR 35.000)

Another creation by Kimmy, Lemon Meringue Eclair! I have tried this one and directly falling in love with it, was a great one. The texture was soft and perfectly combined with the lemon taste from its meringue. 

Elle & Vire Butter Croissant (IDR 20.000)

Elle & Vire Butter Croissant by French Guy, Guillaume Lansoy - as a National Trainer Manager for Giant, Hero, Star Mart under Hero Management. Previously, he has worked for Maison Kayser at France as Bakery Chef then move to Tokyo, Japan and Taiwan. Anyway, this is a must to try! The best croissant I ever found, look at its layer from the outside but it was really soft and smooth for the inside. And you can also enjoy the taste of French on it, thanks to Odie Djamil for suggesting this one!

Chocolate Baileys Choux Sable (IDR 30.000) and Sticky Date Pudding (IDR 30.000)

Chocolate Baileys Choux Sable by Ray Janson (@rayjanson), which has graduated as a Grand Diplome of Culinary and Pastry in Le Cordon Bleu Paris College of Culinary Arts, and he has studied under the guidance of world's awards winning chefs such as Joel Robuchon and Peter Gilmore. And he also worked as a junior sous chef in Hotel Mulia, Senayan - now as a chef and founder of Verjus Private Dining.


On that day, everyone are welcome to visit, talk to the cooks and share a meal with HYDE Kemang signature dishes. Thanks again to Odie Djamil for assisting us!

HOWDY HELLO HOLA HEY HO


Howdy Hello Hola Hey Ho (H5) such a unique and long enough for a restaurant name, the which located in Grand Indonesia, level 5 beside Yellow Fin exactly. Anyway, Hello Hola Hey Howdy Ho is a new restaurant and bar managed by OPCO Indonesia Group that has been reliable in the world of food & beverages, they will serve you in Authentic South East Asian street food.


When you enter this restaurant, you will feel a slight touch of vintage, visible from interior design, such as dining chairs made ​​of wood / rattan. Impression of wood always feels good to me, as well as others.


And not just a touch of vintage in it, this restaurant also offers a variety of old games (located on the shelf, which is at the center of the restaurant) that you can play together with friends / family. Just pick it one!

After enjoy the game, now it's time to taste the food from H5. Curious about the foods? Or whether the food is as unique as the name of the restaurant? Come, let us taste together!

Son-in-Law Eggs

Son-in-Law Eggs (IDR 18.000), as the starter from H5, was deep-fried and soft-centered eggs served with tamarind and caramel sauce. And you better enjoy it in warm to get the perfectness! Oh My God, this was so delicious! And I think this-is-a-must to try from Howdy Hello Hola Hey Ho.

Mr. Phat

Mr. Phat with Pork (IDR 50.000) / with Beef (IDR 55.000), this was a favorite menu from H5! A slow-cooked pulled pork/beef with zesty fresh Asian slaw and sunny side-up egg stacked on a toasted roti! It will also be more palatable when it is still warm.

Uncle Ho's Crunchy Wings

Uncle Ho’s Crunchy Wings (IDR 32.000), was a marinated chicken wings, fried and tossed in caramelized fish sauce, crunchy garlic and herbs. Perhaps from its shape is slightly different than chicken wing in general. In this menu, chicken wing was given a special seasoning then fried until crisp on the outside.


Red Beef Curry (IDR 80.000), a tender beef cubes served in a creamy curry, thai with purple and pea eggplant, basil, topped with crispy lotus and lychee! Maybe a little bit strange if you find lychee in the bowl of curry. But don't be mistaken, it's something unique and a perfect combination for me, when sweet meets spicy. A MUST TO TRY!

Vietnamese Chicken Chop Rice

Vietnamese Chicken Chop Rice / Com Tam Chicken (IDR 55.000), romatic rice which is served with honey-glazed chicken, house chicken meatloaf, sunny side-up egg, pickles and nuoc cham dressing. How to get the best of it? Just eaten with a bit of everything in one bite! HAP! Just try it, if you can't imagine. Hehe. 

*Nuoc Cham is a common name for a variety of Vietnamese 'dipping sauces' that are served quite frequently as condiments. It is commonly a sweet, sour, salty and spicy sauce.

Roast South-East Style Chicken

Roast South-East Style Chicken (IDR 70.000) - whoooa, such a big bite for me! It was half-chicken in front of you, has brined for 24 hours, stuffed with fragrant herbs, oven-roasted and finished with a honey and fish sauce glaze, served with Green Nam Jim sauce and purple sweet potatoes. Anyway, the chicken was tender enough!

Mango Mania

Mango Mania (IDR 40.000), was a Thai sticky rice served with fresh mango slices, mango-cream icy bar and sesame brittle. FYI, this menu was seasonal only. 

Grass Jelly Delight

Grass Jelly Delight (IDR 49.000), just another dessert in bowl which is happening in nowadays, consist of grass jelly, sweet potato ball, pearl, black tea jelly, selection of ice cream. But for today, we choose for green tea ice cream! Sluurrpp.... Oh ya, I'm not a big fan of dessert but luckily I enjoy with it, not too sweet enough or you can added some sugar into it.

Avogato

The last was : Avogato (IDR 35.000), a twist on the good of favourite ‘avocado juice’ – creamy avocado pannacotta served with dark chocolate shards + hot espresso coffee. It was really good but I need a bigger glass, fosho! :)

BLUMCHEN COFFEE

From the beginning, Blümchen set out to be a different kind of coffee shop. One that not only celebrated the heritage and flavours of Indonesian coffee but also provided a unique, sophisticated venue for customers to relax in.

Did you know, the owner was a Korean? He is Lee So Wang, a Korean native, moved to Jakarta in 1988 to work as a lawyer. On arrival, he quickly developed a passion for the richness and quality of Indonesian coffee.  As the capital of a nation that produces more than 10% of the world’s coffee, it surprised him how difficult it was to find good quality coffee.  After travelling to Germany he became captivated with the European coffee culture and the romance of the coffee experience. On his return, he decided to combine his business acumen with his passion for Indonesian coffee to open the first Blümchen cafe in Fatmawati in 2008. 


Blümchen means 'flower' in German and he hoped that Indonesians love and pride for their coffee would bloom just as as a flower does. Due to growing demand, the cafe moved to Fairgrounds in the heart of SCBD in 2012 and now presides in a prominent space on the ground floor.


The interior of Blümchen is designed to offer an original and unique coffee experience. Large windows applied to the cafe so that natural light coming into the room and leather sofa which can give the impression and comfort to the costumer, and also wooden tables that can be used to relax with friends, meetings, study or work.


Antiques from Lee So Wang’s travels adorn the walls including a vintage Vespa and a typewriter giving the space an artisanal ambience. And you can also find British impression on decoration, this is because the owner likes a touch of European style.


The cafe is also the exclusive distributor of Ascaso coffee machines, imported from Spain these retro-looking machines offer the very best in espresso technology. 


Lee So Wang travels across the archipelago to source the finest beans to meet his exacting standards. They are then roasted on the premises twice a week, before expertly trained baristas transform them into a pure, fresh, steaming cup of coffee. 

Here also available various options of coffee you want, either in the form of grains or powder. For more details, you can directly ask the waiters there, they are very well in serving the costumer.


Having coffee in the morning is always good, or can be said there's no life without coffee! Hehe. Now, let take a hot coffee with me here. Hmm okay, just take a sip of their special now! Rolo Way Latte (IDR 35.000 - left), was a Blümchen 'house branded', chocolate and caramel. French Kiss Coffee Latte (IDR 35.000 - middle), was also a Blümchen 'house branded' combined with milk and vanilla-chock syrup and whipped cream on top. True Love Latte (IDR 35.000 - right), just another Blümchen 'house branded' with hazelnut and caramel. This one is the most favourite menu!


And now, let's enjoy the cold drinks! Anyway, their frappe is a combination of the "Espresso Special" combined with ice cream, biscuit and served with whipped cream. Then, let me explain you from the left to right : Oreo Blend (IDR 36.000), the only one as my favourite - in fact, I can't deny everything made with oreo. Ooops! Haha. Next, Iced Chocolate (IDR 36.000), just a simply refresher, most people like to have this in the morning. And the last, Iced Coffee Caramel (IDR 35.000) that you can really taste the mixed of coffee and caramel. It would make your day more fresh!


Chocolate Croissant (IDR 15.000) was made fresh each day, using the finest artisan techniques and ingredients. The dough is very soft and slightly chewy, I like it!

And don't worry! Blümchen also serve for special house sandwiches which are made with organic and fresh throughout the day. Available in Smoked beef (IDR 28.000) and Tuna (IDR 28.000). Enjoy your breakfast here!
